Jersey Mike’s makes its UK debut: four London sub restaurants opening this November

Published at 5:44pm

One of America’s best-known sandwich chains is crossing the Atlantic — and London gets it first. Jersey Mike’s has confirmed the locations of its first four UK restaurants, all in central London, with the first set to open this November.

The American sub giant will begin its British adventure on Argyll Street, just off Oxford Street, before opening three further restaurants on New Oxford Street, Baker Street and Cranbourn Street. The four high-footfall sites put the brand right in the heart of the capital’s shopping and theatre districts from day one.

Where exactly are they opening?

Each of the four locations has been chosen for its crowds. Argyll Street sits moments from Oxford Street and the Carnaby Street quarter in Soho, one of the busiest retail corners in Europe. New Oxford Street links Holborn with Tottenham Court Road, Baker Street anchors the southern end of Marylebone, and Cranbourn Street sits a stone’s throw from Leicester Square in the West End’s entertainment heartland.

Together, the quartet gives Jersey Mike’s instant visibility among shoppers, theatregoers and office workers — exactly the lunchtime crowds a sub chain needs.

What is Jersey Mike’s?

For anyone unfamiliar, Jersey Mike’s is a genuine American institution. It started in 1956 as a single neighbourhood sandwich shop on the Jersey Shore and has grown over seven decades into one of the biggest sub chains in the United States, with more than 3,300 restaurants.

Jersey Mike’s is not the only American-style import landing in the capital — a New York-style deli recently arrived in Mayfair, handing out free bagels on its opening day.

What makes their subs different?

The chain’s calling card is freshness. Bread is baked in-store every day, meats and cheeses are sliced to order in front of customers rather than pre-cut, and subs are finished “Mike’s Way” — topped with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, spices and “The Juice”, a blend of red wine vinegar and olive oil.

Its UK restaurants will serve a range of signature cold and hot subs, all prepared fresh in-store. Full details of the British menu — and whether any recipes will be tweaked for local tastes — are yet to be revealed.

“Only the beginning”

Satnam Leihal, chief executive of Jersey Mike’s UK & Ireland, said he was “incredibly excited” to finally reveal the launch locations.

“We wanted to start right in the heart of London, and these sites put us in four brilliant, high-footfall locations across the capital,” he said. “Argyll Street will be the first opportunity for people here to experience what has made Jersey Mike’s such a loved brand in the US, but it’s only the beginning.”

He added that the company had “ambitious plans for the UK and Ireland” and could not wait to start welcoming its first customers through the doors this November.

A proven American heavyweight

The London launch is the first time the brand has ventured beyond North America — and it arrives with serious momentum behind it. Jersey Mike’s has been among the fastest-growing franchise businesses in the United States, and in late 2024 it agreed a majority-stake sale to investment giant Blackstone, a deal completed the following year that reportedly valued the company at around $8 billion.

It is the latest in a wave of American food names betting on London. The capital has already embraced the likes of Popeyes and Shake Shack, while fried-chicken chain Chick-fil-A opened its first UK restaurants in 2025. Jersey Mike’s will be hoping British diners take to its sliced-to-order subs with the same enthusiasm.

It is a busy autumn for the capital’s food scene: Aldi has confirmed four new London supermarkets before Christmas, and the UK’s first train station food hall is preparing to open at London Victoria.

When will they open?

Exact opening dates for each of the four restaurants, along with the full UK menu and details of launch celebrations, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

What is certain is that November marks the start of something significant: four prime central London sites, a 70-year-old American success story, and a brand-new contender in the capital’s fiercely competitive sandwich scene.
