Motorists are facing major disruption this morning after an M25 vehicle fire forced the motorway to shut in the anticlockwise direction between Potters Bar and South Mimms.

All lanes have been brought to a standstill between junction 24 for the A111 Stagg Hill at Potters Bar and junction 23 for the A1(M) at South Mimms, with queues of stationary traffic building on the approach to the closure.

The stoppage began at around 9.10am. Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident, and it is not yet known when the motorway will reopen.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes while the carriageway remains closed. Anyone heading out this morning is advised to allow plenty of extra time and check live traffic updates before setting off.
