Police hunt after man ‘exposes himself’ at Beckenham sports ground

Published at 10:06am

Police are hunting a man after an alleged indecent exposure at a sports ground in Beckenham.

Officers were called to Harvington Sports Ground on Thursday, September 24, following reports that a man had exposed himself.

A male witness told officers he had seen the man expose himself before leaving the area on foot.

Officers attended and searched the ground but could not locate the suspect. Enquiries remain ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended and searched the area, however the man could not be located. Enquiries remain ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage.”

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s, of stocky build, with short dark hair. At the time he was allegedly wearing a grey T-shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms.

Police have issued the description publicly in the hope that someone recognises the man or saw him in the area on Thursday.

The incident took place at the sports ground in Beckenham, south-east London.

Anyone who was nearby and saw anything is being urged to contact police on 101, quoting reference CAD 6641/24SEP. The force has issued renewed witness appeals in other London investigations when new information has been needed to move a case forward.

The investigation is also the latest inquiry by the force into an alleged sexual offence in south London, where detectives are separately looking into a reported attack in a Brixton churchyard.

Detectives are continuing to make enquiries and are asking anyone who was in or around Harvington Sports Ground on Thursday to get in touch if they noticed anything unusual.

Officers are reminding the public that 101 is the number for reporting non-emergency incidents and passing on information, while 999 should always be used when a crime is happening there and then.

Beckenham has seen a string of recent crime stories, including the case of two brothers from the town who were jailed over a honeytrap kidnap plot outside a Lewisham restaurant.

Indecent exposure is a criminal offence in England and Wales, and anyone accused of it can face prosecution if a case is brought before the courts.

Anyone with information about the Harvington Sports Ground incident can call the Metropolitan Police on 101, quoting reference CAD 6641/24SEP.
