No security issues have been found after a threat was made against Chessington World of Adventures, the Metropolitan Police has said, calling it an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.
A Met spokesperson said: “We are aware of a threat made on the morning of Sunday, 8 November against a theme park in Chessington. The matter has been assessed, and no security issues have been identified. This is believed to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.”
The theme park was reportedly evacuated on Sunday after the threat, with police officers and sniffer dogs seen at the site on Leatherhead Road in Chessington.
Chessington Buzz, a social media account covering the theme park, reported the incident on X. It said: “We’re aware there is a parkwide evacuation of Chessington currently and, as is often standard, the attendance of emergency services.” The account urged visitors to follow instructions from staff at the park and its hotels.
How the day unfolded
The police incident on the A243 Leatherhead Road outside the park was first reported at around 12.59pm, with the road closed in both directions between Fairoak Lane and Barwell Business Park.
Reports of the evacuation at the park itself followed, and Chessington World of Adventures later confirmed it was closed for the day, telling guests their tickets would be accepted at LEGOLAND Windsor.
The Met’s statement, issued later in the afternoon, is the first official word from police on the incident. It does not say when the park will reopen, and the resort has said it will provide a further update as soon as possible.
The A243 closure also remains in place, with no reopening time confirmed. Follow our live updates on the road closure — here. Full details of the evacuation — read our earlier story — and of the park’s closure for the day — read it here.
