Chessington World of Adventures has reportedly been evacuated after reports of a threat, with police officers and sniffer dogs seen at the theme park.
The evacuation was reported on Sunday afternoon at the park on Leatherhead Road in Chessington, in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
Chessington Buzz, a social media account covering the theme park, reported a parkwide evacuation. In a post on X, it said: “We’re aware there is a parkwide evacuation of Chessington currently and, as is often standard, the attendance of emergency services.”
The account urged visitors to follow instructions from staff at the park and its hotels, adding: “Let the teams do their jobs.”
Police urge people not to speculate
The Metropolitan Police has urged people not to speculate about the incident while enquiries are ongoing. The force has been contacted for further details and a response is awaited.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, including what the reported threat involved, whether anyone has been injured, or whether any arrests have been made.
Chessington World of Adventures is a theme park and zoo in south-west London, and a popular day out for families across the capital. A parkwide evacuation means visitors are asked to leave the park’s attractions and grounds while staff and emergency services deal with the situation.
This is a breaking news incident and this article will be updated as more information becomes available.
