Person dies at Cannon Street station after incident on Tube tracks

Published at 4:20pm

A person has died after an incident on the tracks at Cannon Street Underground station in central London, British Transport Police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the station at around 5pm on Tuesday, 28 October. A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 5.04pm yesterday (28 October) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Cannon Street station.”

British Transport Police confirmed that the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The incident brought major disruption to the evening rush hour. Transport for London suspended parts of the District, Circle, and Hammersmith & City lines while emergency services responded at the station.

Services resumed close to 7pm, though severe delays continued into the evening for passengers travelling through central London.

No further details about the individual have been released. The death was reported on Thursday, 29 October, the day after the incident.

It is the second time this week that a person being hit by a train has disrupted services into a major London terminus, after services to and from Waterloo were disrupted earlier on Thursday. Separately, passengers using Liverpool Street face a long planned closure of the station’s mainline lift, as reported here.
