Eleven takeaways across the London Borough of Bexley have been given one- or two-star food hygiene ratings in their latest inspections, with five of them scoring just one star, the second-lowest mark on the scale.
The ratings come from the Food Standards Agency’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, which scores every food business from zero to five after an inspection. A score of five means hygiene is considered very good, four means good, three means generally satisfactory, two means improvement is necessary, one means major improvement is necessary, and zero means urgent improvement is required.
Each inspection looks at three separate areas: how hygienically food is handled, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, and how food safety is managed. The overall star rating reflects the standards found on the day of the inspection, not the quality or taste of the food itself.
Based on the latest inspection data from 2026, here are the eleven lowest-rated takeaways across the borough, starting with the five one-star premises.
The five one-star takeaways
P&R Chicken, 35 Wellington Parade, Blackfen Road, Sidcup — rated one star after an inspection on 28 August 2026. Inspectors judged that major improvement was necessary in the management of food safety, while hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building were both rated generally satisfactory.

Fortune Star, 132 Erith Road, Bexleyheath — rated one star after an inspection on 30 June 2026. Improvement was needed in hygienic food handling and in the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, major improvement was needed in the management of food safety, and the inspection found shortcomings across all three categories assessed.
Chicken World Peri Peri, 17 Blackfen Road, Sidcup — rated one star after an inspection on 15 June 2026. The management of food safety needed major improvement and hygienic food handling needed improvement, although the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building was rated good — a reminder that a premises can score well in one area and still fall short overall.
The Fen Chinese Take Away, 227 Blackfen Road, Sidcup — rated one star after an inspection on 25 September 2026. Major improvement was needed in the management of food safety, while hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building were both rated generally satisfactory.
Three of the eleven premises on the list sit on Blackfen Road in Sidcup. Blackfen has separately been under a weekend police dispersal zone after reports of youths pelting cars with eggs and masonry — an unrelated matter, but a sign of how much attention the area has drawn lately.
The six two-star takeaways
New Star Chinese Takeaway, 30 Station Road, Belvedere — rated two stars after an inspection on 24 February 2026. Improvement was needed in both hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, while the management of food safety was rated generally satisfactory.
Bagels And Pastries, 154 Brampton Road, Bexleyheath — rated two stars after an inspection on 6 August 2026. Hygienic food handling needed improvement, while the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building and the management of food safety were both rated generally satisfactory.

Sidcup, where two of the one-star takeaways are based, is also facing disruption of a different kind, with a Sidcup street set for four months of closures while Thames Water replaces water mains.
What a rating does and does not mean
The Food Standards Agency stresses that a rating reflects the standards found at the time of an inspection, and it can change. If a business improves and is re-inspected, its score can go up, and businesses can also appeal a rating, respond to it, or ask the local authority for a re-inspection.
It is also worth remembering what the stars do not measure. A food hygiene rating is not a guide to the quality of the food itself, or to how good a takeaway tastes — it is a snapshot of hygiene standards on the day inspectors visited. Anyone who wants to check the current rating of a takeaway or restaurant can look it up on the Food Standards Agency’s ratings website before ordering.
None of the eleven businesses on this list has been reported as closed, and no food poisoning or illness has been linked to any of them in the inspection data. What the ratings show is where inspectors found room for improvement — in most cases, in how food safety is managed behind the counter.
