Drivers on the North Circular are facing severe delays this lunchtime after a crash near Walthamstow closed two lanes of the A406.
The collision happened on the stretch between the A104 Woodford New Road at Waterworks Corner and the Cooks Ferry Flyover by Ravenside Retail Park, bringing traffic through the area to a near standstill.
Delays were already running at 33 minutes and getting longer, with traffic moving at an average of just 5mph through the affected section.
The knock-on effects are spreading well beyond the crash site. Congestion is trailing back to the A12 at Redbridge, while Forest Road into Walthamstow is also heavily congested as drivers look for another way through.
No details about injuries or the vehicles involved have been confirmed, and there is no word yet on when the road will fully reopen. Drivers heading that way should allow plenty of extra time and check conditions before setting off.
It is the second disruption on the North Circular in as many days. On Tuesday, a collapsed manhole near Redbridge Roundabout blocked a southbound lane and caused long queues towards the M11. Elsewhere on the motorway network, a crash on the M25 clockwise between junctions 26 and 27 has also closed lanes, with lorry recovery work under way.
