Five arrested as police chase ends with loaded gun discovery in Tufnell Park

Published at 10:50am

Five people have been arrested after a police chase ended with a loaded firearm and suspected class A drugs being found in Tufnell Park.

The incident began at around 3.10pm on Sunday 1 November, when officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Brownswood Road, N4.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Following a pursuit, the vehicle was stopped by police on Junction Road, N19.”

“A bag that was discarded from the vehicle during the pursuit was located and found to contain a loaded firearm and alleged class A drugs.”

The driver, a 40-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, possession of a firearm, and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Two women, aged 59 and 28, were arrested nearby on suspicion of possessing a firearm and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

A 57-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

All five were arrested on suspicion — none has been charged or convicted at this stage, and the investigation is ongoing.

The investigation is being led by specialist detectives from the Met’s Trident unit, the team that focuses on gun crime in London. Trident investigations typically involve tracing where a recovered firearm came from and whether it is linked to other offences, though police have not said whether this weapon is linked to any other incident.

The pursuit crossed from Brownswood Road in the north of the capital to Junction Road in Tufnell Park, a busy residential area. Police have not said how far the pursuit travelled or whether anyone was injured during it.

It follows new Met figures showing 429 gun-crime offences across London in just three months, and comes after a man was charged over a double shooting in Islington.
