A person has died at Hanwell railway station in west London after British Transport Police were called to a casualty on the tracks early on Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the station at 6.16am on Tuesday 27 October, alongside paramedics. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Hanwell railway station at 06.16am today (27 October) to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended alongside paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident is not being treated as suspicious. No further details about the person who died have been released.

Hanwell station sits in the London Borough of Ealing, between Southall and West Ealing on the Elizabeth line, with trains running west towards Heathrow and east towards Abbey Wood.

British Transport Police is the force responsible for policing the rail network across Britain. Where a death on the railway is not treated as suspicious, a file is prepared for the coroner so the circumstances can be formally recorded.

Elsewhere on the rail network, c2c passengers have faced disruption all week following a freight derailment near Barking.

Hanwell station opened in December 1838 on the original Great Western Railway line. Its Victorian station building is Grade II listed, and it gained step-free access from platform to ticket office level as part of the Crossrail project.
