Detectives seek witnesses after indecent exposure at Wimbledon Underground station

Published at 10:29am

British Transport Police have released CCTV images today as they appeal for information after a man exposed himself at Wimbledon Underground station last month.

The incident happened at around 4.40pm on 9 September, when a man exposed himself in front of a number of people at the station, including a 12-year-old girl.

Detectives have now issued images of a man they believe may have information that could help their inquiries, and are asking anyone who recognises him to come forward.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “At around 4.40pm on 9 September at Wimbledon Underground Station, a man exposed himself in front of a number of people, including a 12-year-old girl. Officers believe the man in the images could have information that may assist their enquiries.”

The man pictured has not been charged. Officers believe he is someone who may have information that could assist their inquiries.

Anyone who recognises the man is asked to text British Transport Police on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 487 of September 9. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Wimbledon station is one of south-west London’s busiest interchanges, where the District line meets National Rail and Tramlink services in the London Borough of Merton.

British Transport Police investigate crime across the rail network, and recently charged a man over a stabbing at Brixton station. The appeal also comes as policing in the capital continues to change, with the Metropolitan Police recently altering how officers respond to electronic-tag breaches.

Detectives are continuing their inquiries and have asked anyone who was at the station at the time, or who has any other information, to get in touch.
