Two Dartford Tunnel lanes shut anticlockwise in morning disruption

Published at 10:04am | Updated: 26 October 2026 at 12:11pm

Update: All traffic is now being temporarily held on the M25 anticlockwise before junction 2 following a crash reported on the motorway. Severe delays of 22 minutes and increasing have been reported on the anticlockwise stretch between junctions 3 and 1, with congestion backing up to junction 1b. The earlier two-lane closure at the Dartford Tunnel remains in place. Live updates continue below. The earlier crash between junctions 3 and 2 was reported at 10.35am, with two lorries and a car involved.

This is a developing story — live updates are being added below as the situation changes.

Two lanes are closed at the Dartford Tunnel anticlockwise this morning, with drivers warned to expect disruption on the crossing.

The closure affects the anticlockwise carriageway from junction 1a, where the A206 meets the M25, to junction 31, the A1306 junction on the Essex side of the river.

Motorists heading anticlockwise — northbound, through the tunnels beneath the Thames — are facing disruption on Monday morning, 26 October. No cause for the closure has been confirmed, and no reopening time has been given.

The Dartford Crossing links Kent and Essex across the Thames, carrying the M25 between the two counties. The anticlockwise route runs through the tunnels, while clockwise traffic crosses on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.

Drivers planning to use the crossing are advised to check their journey before setting off and to allow extra time.

Updates will be added to the live blog below as more information becomes available.

Elsewhere on the transport network, c2c trains are disrupted all week after the Barking derailment, while the original Barking incident is covered in our earlier live coverage. Drivers heading west should also note the planned M25 closure at Heathrow this coming weekend.
