Westminster and Croydon joint top for weapons possession offences

Westminster and Croydon jointly recorded the highest number of weapons possession offences in London in September 2026, new Metropolitan Police figures show, with 34 offences each during the month.

Across London, 567 possession of weapons offences were recorded in September. Tower Hamlets followed closely with 33, while Lambeth recorded 32.

Brent was next, with 31 offences, while Haringey and Newham both recorded 26. Several boroughs recorded between 20 and 25 offences, including Enfield, Greenwich, Islington, Lewisham and Southwark.

At the other end of the table, Richmond upon Thames recorded just two offences in September. Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge each recorded seven offences, while Bexley had nine.

Longer-term rise

The monthly figures come alongside a significant increase in the longer-term statistics. The Metropolitan Police dashboard shows that possession of weapons offences increased by 18.8 per cent in the 12 months ending September 2026, compared with the previous 12-month period ending September 2025.

These are recorded offences, not convictions: the figures count crimes reported to and recorded by police.

The rise stands in contrast to the arson and criminal damage category, where offences fell by 3.7 per cent over the same 12-month period, as reported in September’s arson and criminal damage figures — a reminder that different types of crime are moving in different directions across the capital.
