A house fire in Wembley last night destroyed the first floor and roof of a semi-detached home, with around 40 firefighters called to the scene.
Six fire engines were sent to the house on Eagle Road, Wembley, after 6pm on Saturday, November 1. Firefighters used a 32-metre turntable ladder to fight the fire from above.
The London Fire Brigade received the first of nine calls about the blaze at 6.26pm, and the fire was out by 8.24pm.
Turntable ladders are used to reach the upper floors and roof of a building, allowing firefighters to attack a fire from above and to check for spread through the roof space — often the hardest part of a house fire to reach from inside.
The report does not mention any injuries.
The brigade regularly reminds households to fit working smoke alarms on every level of the home and test them weekly, and to plan an escape route in case of fire.
Fires in London homes continue to keep crews busy. Sixty firefighters tackled a shop fire in Thamesmead as five people were evacuated, while a fire tore through a children’s playground at Frank’s Park in Belvedere.
