Plans for the Stepney Park Primary School redevelopment have been submitted to Tower Hamlets Council, with a formal application seeking permission for a four-storey building to provide replacement teaching accommodation on the east London school’s campus.
The application, registered under reference PA/26/01465/A1, covers the part redevelopment of the school site on land to the rear of 331–377 (odd) Jamaica Street and north of Smithy Street, E1. The proposed new block would replace existing teaching areas with modern, purpose-built classroom accommodation, concentrating the school’s facilities within a higher-density, multi-storey footprint. The submission also includes the reconfiguration of existing site infrastructure to serve the primary school.
The scheme has now been placed on the council’s public register, triggering a statutory consultation period during which residents and other interested parties can inspect the plans and submit their views. It is important to note that the application has been submitted and registered — it has not been approved. During the consultation window, representations on matters such as design, transport impact, environmental factors and local infrastructure capacity will be compiled by council planning officers before the application is either determined under delegated authority or referred to the Strategic Development Committee.

Alongside the Stepney Park scheme, the roundup includes a proposed elevated terrace at Tower Hamlets Town Hall in Whitechapel Road, an application for a certificate of lawfulness in Commercial Road, and tree works in Alderney Road and at the Cannon Workshops in E14. Parliament Politics Magazine also reported the submission, noting that the plans form part of a wider series of planning filings currently under review in the borough.
The site sits in a dense residential and civic part of Stepney, framed by Jamaica Street to the west and Smithy Street to the south.
