Londoners are being offered the chance to scale the world’s highest mountain without leaving north London, as a new Everest VR experience in Camden opens this month.

Everest: The First Ascent launches at Eclipso, 213–219 Camden High Street, on 30 September, inviting visitors to relive the historic 1953 expedition of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay through immersive virtual reality.

The 40-minute experience, open to ages eight and up, begins with a short onboarding session before participants take on the extreme cold and thin air of the Himalayas. Tickets start at £20.

Organisers say the attraction blends storytelling with cutting-edge virtual reality to put visitors in the boots of the pioneering climbers who first stood on the roof of the world.

The launch adds to Camden’s reputation as one of the capital’s great days out, from its famous market stalls to its lesser-known corners.

With a packed calendar of events affecting travel around the capital, visitors are advised to plan their journey before setting off.
