Traffic has been brought to a standstill on the M25 in Surrey after a multi-vehicle crash forced the closure of all lanes on the anticlockwise carriageway.
National Highways confirmed every lane is being held between junction 6 for Godstone and junction 5 for Sevenoaks, with all emergency services now at the scene.
Delays have grown sharply through the afternoon. What began as 20-minute hold-ups with two miles of congestion has escalated into hour-long delays and five miles of stationary traffic on the approach to the Godstone junction.
Motorists heading clockwise are also being caught up, with traffic building on the opposite carriageway as drivers slow to look at the incident.
