Greggs opens new Central London shop with 12 jobs

Greggs has opened a new shop on New Street Square in Central London, creating 12 jobs for the local area.

The bakery chain’s latest branch has a modern new look and serves a full menu of freshly prepared food and drinks throughout the day, from breakfast items in the morning to sweet treats later on.

Shop manager Simon Poore said: “We’re excited to be opening our doors in London and becoming part of the local community. Whether customers are stopping by for breakfast, lunch or a coffee break, we’re looking forward to serving them from our new shop on New Street Square.”

Retail operations director Gillian Long said: “Our new shop in London has brought 12 new jobs to the local area, as well as providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their Greggs favourites.”

Customers will find the chain’s classic favourites on the menu, including sausage rolls, steak bakes and vegan options, alongside seasonal specials such as the Festive Bake. Hot food options include pigs in blankets and southern fried chicken goujons, as well as a selection of pizza slices.

The shop is open Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 7pm. For those on the move, Greggs offers Click + Collect through its app, and delivery via Just Eat and Uber Eats. App users can also access exclusive rewards, including a free hot or iced drink when signing up and a sweet treat on their birthday. Job opportunities at the New Street Square site are listed on the Greggs careers website.

New Street Square sits on the fringe of the City, between Fleet Street and Holborn, an area packed with offices, law firms and media businesses. That makes it classic lunchtime territory for a bakery: a steady flow of office workers looking for a quick breakfast on the way in, something filling at midday, or a coffee and a sweet treat in the afternoon. A new shop here is aimed squarely at that weekday trade, which is reflected in its Monday to Friday opening hours.

The format fits a pattern seen across Central London, where bakery and coffee chains increasingly lean on app ordering and delivery alongside the traditional counter queue. Click + Collect lets commuters and office workers order ahead and skip the lunchtime line, while delivery through Just Eat and Uber Eats extends the shop’s reach beyond the people walking past its door. Rewards built into the app, such as a free drink on signing up and a birthday treat, are designed to turn a one-off visit into a regular habit.

Seasonal specials such as the Festive Bake also give the shop a timely hook as the colder months arrive, when hot food and sweet treats tend to sell well to commuters and shoppers alike. For a chain built on value and familiarity, the appeal of a new Central London branch is simple: the same favourites, in a convenient spot, at the moment of day when people want them.

For the square itself, the arrival of a well-known bakery adds a convenient everyday option for the people who work nearby, as well as for visitors passing between Fleet Street, Holborn and the City. Twelve new jobs may sound modest beside the biggest Central London openings, but for a single shop they represent a full team of managers, bakers and counter staff serving the area from early morning through to the evening.

The opening comes as Central London’s high streets head towards their busiest period of the year, with Christmas lights switch-ons across the capital drawing shoppers into the West End and the City. It also follows other recent shopfront changes in the capital, including the removal of a giant cup from a Chalk Farm juice bar after the council stepped in over planning permission.
