The injured man was located at the scene, treated by paramedics and then taken to hospital. His age and condition have not yet been confirmed by officials.

An incident response officer also attended. These senior clinicians support ambulance crews at serious or complex incidents, helping to coordinate the response on the ground and liaise with other emergency services where needed.

Bromley High Street runs through the heart of the town centre and is typically busy on Friday nights, with shoppers, diners and revellers moving between shops, restaurants, bars and pubs.

Bromley is a large town in south-east London and a major shopping and transport hub for the surrounding borough.

Police appeal and next steps

The Metropolitan Police Service has been contacted for further information about the incident. It is not yet known whether officers have issued a public appeal for witnesses.

At this stage, no further details about the circumstances of the alleged assault have been released. It is not known whether any arrests have been made.

Members of the public who witnessed the incident, or who were in the area at the time and have mobile phone or dashcam footage, can contact the Metropolitan Police. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses, and this article will be updated when more details become available.

Late-night town centre safety

The incident happened shortly before midnight on a Friday, a time when town centres across London are often at their busiest, with people heading home from pubs, bars and restaurants.

Town centres across the capital are policed by a combination of local neighbourhood teams and response officers, with additional patrols often deployed at weekends and during the busiest hours of the night-time economy.

Safety campaigns regularly advise people enjoying a night out to stay with friends, keep valuables out of sight, plan their journey home in advance and remain aware of their surroundings. Anyone who feels unsafe in a town centre at night is advised to move to a well-lit, busy area and to call the police if they feel threatened.

It follows other recent incidents in the capital in which people have been taken to hospital after late-night violence, including an early-hours stabbing on Lordship Lane in Tottenham that left a man in hospital.

Elsewhere, a woman aged 51 was arrested after a fight in Carshalton left a man needing hospital treatment, in a case also covered by London Streets.

Also in the borough, Bromley Council has revived proposals that could lead to the closure of the Poverest Centre, prompting a fresh round of consultation with residents.

What remains unclear at this stage includes the man’s age and condition, the exact circumstances of the alleged assault, and whether any arrests have been made. London Streets will continue to follow this story and publish updates as official information is released.
