Lewisham’s best businesses have been celebrated at a ceremony in Catford, with a restaurant, a much-loved pub and a community bookshop among the winners.

The Lewisham Business Awards 2026 took place at the Broadway Theatre in Catford, bringing together businesses, employers and entrepreneurs from across the borough.

This year’s awards drew a record 9,430 public votes, around 1,000 more than in 2025, from more than 2,000 nominations. Winners were chosen by public vote from a shortlist of 96 finalists across 12 categories.

Among the winners were former award recipients Gurkha’s, which took Best Restaurant after previously winning the title in 2024, and Blythe Hill Tavern, which won Best Bar or Pub and kept its place as one of the borough’s favourite pubs.

A special Lewisham Legacy Award, chosen by the Mayor, went to Kirkdale Bookshop in recognition of its long-standing contribution to the community.

Mayor of Lewisham Liam Shrivastava said: “I’m delighted to celebrate the businesses, employers, and innovators that contribute to our borough.”

“Whether established, growing or just starting up, they shape our economy and communities, creating places for connection.”

“The awards recognise and celebrate their tenacity, hard-work and the positive impact Lewisham businesses make every day.”

Cllr Shireen Asaw, Lewisham Council’s cabinet member for workers, business and skills, said: “Lewisham is a borough dripping with vim and vigour, and all our brilliant entrepreneurs reflect that.”

“From businesses that have served local families for generations to ambitious new ventures, all create jobs, drive opportunities and help shape our future.”

“These awards are about celebrating Lewisham’s ambition and recognising the drive and tenacity necessary to make a business thrive.”

The awards have become a fixture in the borough’s calendar, giving residents a say in which of their local firms deserve recognition. This year’s record vote suggests that appetite is only growing, with organisers noting the jump of around 1,000 votes on last year.

For the winners, the awards offer more than a trophy. In a year when high streets everywhere have faced pressure from rising costs and changing shopping habits, a public vote of confidence from local customers carries real weight, particularly for independent venues such as pubs, restaurants and bookshops.

Full lists of winners across all 12 categories were announced at the Catford ceremony.
