A man has been arrested after a stabbing in Stanmore left two people in hospital, police have said.
Officers were called to Taunton Way in Stanmore at 5.46am yesterday, 27 October, following reports of an assault. A 45-year-old man was taken to hospital with stab wounds, and a woman in her 30s was also taken to hospital after being assaulted. Police said neither person’s injuries are believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in custody. The arrest is on suspicion only at this stage; no charge has been announced. Neither of the people taken to hospital has been named.
What the ambulance service said
London Ambulance Service confirmed it responded to reports of a stabbing at 4.24am. An ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer attended, and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance also arrived by car.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
The two times reported by the two services — the ambulance response at 4.24am and the police call at 5.46am — have each been stated by the service concerned, and this article reports them separately as given.
What was known yesterday
The incident was first reported on 27 October, when reports of a stabbing in Taunton Way said a man had been taken to a major trauma centre. At that stage, his age and condition were unconfirmed, and no arrest had been reported.
What is now confirmed is that two people were taken to hospital — a 45-year-old man with stab wounds and a woman in her 30s who had been assaulted — and that a 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. This article does not claim the arrested man is the man who was stabbed, or vice versa; the statements released so far describe the two 45-year-old men separately.
No weapon, motive or relationship between those involved has been stated by police, and none is claimed here.
Taunton Way itself was partially blocked on the morning of the incident while emergency services dealt with what had happened. It was never described as fully closed, and this article does not claim a reopening time, as none has been stated.
What an arrest on suspicion means
An arrest on suspicion of grievous bodily harm means police have detained a person they suspect of involvement in a serious assault while they investigate. It is not a charge and it is not a conviction. Whether the arrested man is charged, released or faces no further action will depend on the outcome of the enquiries now under way, and nothing further has been announced at this stage.
Investigation ongoing
The arrested man remains in custody while enquiries continue. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 766/27Oct.
Separately, police are also investigating a stabbing in Finsbury Park in which a 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital and another 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Police have not released any further details about the incident at this stage, and the two people taken to hospital have not been identified. This article will be updated if police confirm further information about the arrest or the investigation.
