Historic Masons Arms pub faces demolition under plans for new flats

Fresh plans have been submitted to demolish a 160-year-old north London pub and replace it with flats and a modern bar.

The Masons Arms on Harrow Road in Kensal Green has been boarded up and derelict since it closed suddenly in May 2024.

The Victorian pub was marketed for sale and bought in August 2025 for £2.3 million. Plans lodged in March 2026 propose bulldozing the building and constructing a block of 26 flats with a ground-floor bar.

Developer LJ Developments has now submitted revised plans, with new artist renders showing how the block of flats and bar would look on Harrow Road. The updated proposals would change the facade and design details of the building.

The loss of the Masons Arms would remove another Victorian pub from the capital’s streets at a time when historic boozers face mounting pressure from rising costs and redevelopment.

London Streets has been covering Muswell Hill’s award-winning curry house and the new Fitzrovia hotel this week.
