You’ll be able to hunt bent coppers across London as Line of Duty goes playable in 2027

Line of Duty fans will be able to step into the shoes of AC-12 themselves next year, with a new immersive experience set to turn the streets of London into a playable anti-corruption investigation. Line of Duty: Operation Echo, launching in early 2027, will send teams of players across the capital on a two-to-three-hour case of their own.

The experience is being created by CityDays, the company behind Race Across the World: The Experience and The Traitors: Anywhere. It will arrive alongside the long-awaited seventh series of the BBC drama, which is expected to return in early 2027.

Players will work in teams of two to eight, navigating a four-to-five-kilometre route through London while investigating their own corruption case. Clues will come in the form of physical evidence, video, audio and phone messages, with teams visiting pubs, cafés, landmarks and other venues that each become part of the investigation.

Escape rooms meet the open city

At each stop, teams will face the kind of challenges familiar to anyone who has watched AC-12 at work: escape room-style puzzles, riddles to decipher and moral dilemmas to wrestle with. The evidence trail includes CCTV footage, fingerprints, forensic reports, diary entries and bank records, alongside interactions with characters delivered in different formats.

Navigational clues will also send players hunting for permanent features hidden in the city itself — plaques, statues, distinctive architecture and landmarks that most Londoners walk past every day without noticing.

But finding the evidence is only half the challenge. Teams will have to decide who to trust, where to take the investigation next and how far they are willing to go for justice. Choices made along the way will shape the story and can change its outcome — there is no single correct path through the case.

Super Sleuths or Reckless Mavericks

Every team will be scored on how they perform, with results feeding into a leaderboard. At the end, each team receives a personalised certificate showing their score, their accolades and a persona based on how they approached the investigation — ranging from “Super Sleuths” to “Reckless Mavericks”.

Tom Rymer, founder of CityDays, said the company wanted the experience to feel authentic to the world of the show while giving fans a completely new way to experience it together. The company has seen first-hand, he said, how rewarding it can be for people to step inside a world they know and love.

From the company behind Race Across the World

CityDays has form when it comes to turning TV formats into playable city adventures. The company created Race Across the World: The Experience and The Traitors: Anywhere, both of which put players through real-world challenges inspired by the shows. Line of Duty: Operation Echo is its biggest licence yet, and the format — a walking investigation spread across the capital — plays to the company’s strengths.

Tom Rymer, founder of CityDays, said the company had seen first-hand how exciting and rewarding it was for people to step inside a world they know and love, adding that the team was hugely excited to create something authentic to the world of Line of Duty while giving fans a completely new way to experience it together.

London’s booming immersive scene

The announcement lands at a moment when playable, story-driven experiences are booming in the capital. Londoners have embraced everything from immersive theatre and escape rooms to city-wide treasure hunts, and the arrival of a brand built on one of the BBC’s most-watched dramas of the past decade is likely to be among the biggest openings of 2027.

Line of Duty has been off air since its sixth series in 2021, and anticipation for the seventh has been building ever since. The stars of the show have suggested the new series marks an end to the story so far — which makes 2027 a fitting moment for fans to take up the badge themselves.

Details of tickets, the exact route and the launch date are expected to be announced in the coming months. For now, the message to fans is simple: mother of God, start assembling your team.
