Air ambulance scrambles to Northolt crash as road closures bring traffic to a standstill

Published at 4:56pm

The Northolt crash air ambulance callout came at 1.12pm on Thursday, after a collision between a motorbike and a car on Kensington Road left a man needing urgent hospital treatment.

London’s Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene near the junction with Ealing Road, where paramedics treated the man at the roadside. He was later rushed to a major trauma centre as police sealed off surrounding roads and traffic built up.

Emergency crews were called to the collision at 1.12pm on 8 October, a short distance from Northala Fields in the west London suburb. London Ambulance Service sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager to the scene, and London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We treated a man at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre by road as a priority.”

No further details about the man’s injuries have been released, and his condition is not yet known.

Roads closed near Northala Fields

Police sealed off the junction near Northala Fields following the collision, closing part of the road to traffic. The cordon triggered heavy congestion in the area, with drivers facing long delays through the afternoon.

The crash was reported between a motorbike and a car, although the full circumstances of the collision have not yet been confirmed. Officers remained at the scene while the emergency response continued and the road was made safe.

The closures came during one of the busiest periods on the roads, with afternoon traffic building quickly around the cordon. Bus routes serving the area were also expected to face disruption until the road fully reopened.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes while the closures were in place.

Travel advice for drivers in Northolt

Anyone driving through Northolt this evening should expect disruption around Kensington Road and the junction with Ealing Road. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for journeys, follow the directions of officers at the scene, and check live travel information before setting off.

The nearby A40 is the main east-west route through the area and may offer an alternative for longer journeys, although congestion is likely to spill onto surrounding roads while the Northolt crash air ambulance response continues to affect the area.

What happens next

Police are expected to keep the cordon in place until their enquiries at the scene are complete and the road is safe to reopen. Officers will be working to establish exactly how the motorbike and the car came to collide, and anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage is likely to be asked to come forward as the investigation continues. This article will be updated if further details are released.

London’s Air Ambulance

London’s Air Ambulance is the capital’s helicopter emergency medical service, dispatching an advanced trauma team to critically injured patients across London. The charity works alongside London Ambulance Service, and its crews are regularly scrambled to serious road collisions where patients need hospital-level care at the roadside.

A similar response was seen when the air ambulance touched down on the A2 near Gravesend after a motorcyclist was injured in a crash, and when a boy was hospitalised after an A23 crash brought the air ambulance to Thornton Heath.
