Dramatic video has captured the moment a speeding car spun across three lanes of a busy London road and crashed into another vehicle.
The incident happened on Newham Way in east London at around 9am on October 8. It was filmed by motorcyclist Ziyaad Ibney Teemul, 42, from Basildon, Essex, who was on his way to work at the time.
Mr Teemul said: “I was riding along Newham Way heading to work. I saw a Fiesta coming from the fast lane; it moved quickly into the middle lane, then changed across two more lanes. It hit a car in the final lane, then the Fiesta lost control and spun into the fast lane, coming to rest against the barrier.”
The Fiesta appeared to be speeding before swerving across the road and colliding with a vehicle in the far-left lane. Both vehicles spun out of control, with the Fiesta crashing into the barrier on the right and coming to a stop with a crumpled bonnet.
Mr Teemul said: “I didn’t stop, I carried on as I was on my way to work.” He did not see whether anyone was injured or whether emergency services attended.
A dangerous road
Newham Way is one of the main dual carriageways feeding traffic between the A13, Stratford and the Blackwall Tunnel, and lane-swap collisions of this kind are a known danger on busy stretches. Drivers are reminded that aggressive lane changes at speed can end in catastrophe in seconds — as this footage shows.
The video is a reminder of how quickly a motorway-style driving manoeuvre can go wrong on London’s roads.
