Morning misery on the M25 has deepened, with drivers near Cobham now facing delays of nearly an hour after a crash brought the motorway to a standstill.
The incident near Cobham services is one of several causing chaos on London’s orbital motorway on Tuesday morning — with a separate crash near Upminster also causing long delays.
Nearly hour-long queues
Traffic monitoring showed queues building rapidly through the morning rush hour, with delays approaching 60 minutes on the affected stretch. Multiple vehicles are understood to be involved, with some reports of broken-down cars adding to the congestion.
National Highways has been working to clear the scene, but the combination of the crash and the sheer volume of morning traffic has made for a slow recovery.
A morning of M25 misery
Tuesday 20 October is shaping up to be one of the worst mornings on the M25 in recent weeks. Between the Cobham crash, the Upminster incident and earlier Southeastern rail cancellations, London’s transport network has been under severe strain.
Drivers are advised to check live traffic information before travelling and to allow significantly extra time for journeys using the M25 in Surrey and around the Dartford Crossing approaches.
What to do
Those already caught in the queues should stay in their vehicles and follow instructions from traffic officers. National Highways advises checking its website or social media channels for the latest updates on lane reopenings.
