Affordable workspace for 60 entrepreneurs opening at King’s Cross

Published at 3:03pm

A new affordable workspace for around 60 entrepreneurs is opening in King’s Cross, run by sustainable-innovation hub The Mills Fabrica.

The site, next to The Mills Fabrica’s London headquarters at 34b York Way, is part of Islington Council’s Affordable Workspace Programme and will offer around 60 desks across three floors.

Alongside the desks, the workspace will include meeting rooms, an event area and phone booths, plus access to workshops, networking events and industry-led learning sessions. It will focus on sectors the council has identified as priorities, including tech, creative industries and social enterprises.

What The Mills Fabrica does

The Mills Fabrica is a global centre for techstyle and agrifood innovation, backing new ideas and businesses working on sustainability and social impact. Its London base sits in the King’s Cross area, one of the capital’s biggest regeneration zones, where York Way runs alongside the station.

Vanessa Cheung, founder of The Mills and group managing director of Nan Fung Development, said: “We’re excited to be partnering with Islington Council to ensure every entrepreneur has access to the resources, networks and opportunities needed to succeed.”

She added: “The expansion will deepen our roots in Islington, strengthen local employment and innovation pathways, and advance the borough’s ambition for a fair, sustainable and inclusive economy.”

Council backing for local businesses

Cllr James Potts, Islington Council’s executive member for inclusive economy and planning, said he was excited to be boosting opportunities for local entrepreneurs with another affordable workspace in the borough — this time in the heart of King’s Cross.

“The Mills Fabrica offered precisely the package of support, insight and industry expertise that will help cultivate the next generation of local entrepreneurs — helping them turn ideas into businesses, and businesses into jobs and opportunities for Islington,” he said. “This is among the latest locations secured as part of our wider Affordable Workspace Programme.”

The workspace adds to a run of council-backed investment in the borough, including a £9.5 million inclusion programme across 39 Islington schools. King’s Cross station itself faces disruption later this month, with the East Coast Main Line closing through the station on 28 and 29 November.

No opening date for the new workspace has been announced yet.
