Three charged after loaded gun and drugs found in Islington police chase

Published at 4:50pm

Three people have been charged after a police pursuit in Islington ended with a loaded firearm and alleged class A drugs being discovered.

The incident began at around 3.10pm on Sunday (November 1), when officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Brownswood Road, N4. Following an alleged pursuit, the vehicle was stopped on Junction Road, N19. During the alleged chase, a bag was discarded from the vehicle and later found to contain a loaded firearm and alleged class A drugs.

A 40-year-old man, Generous Freeman of Amhurst Road, Hackney, has been charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without a certificate, possession of criminal property, aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

Lauren Brady, 28, of Dartmouth Park Hill, Camden, and Colleen Scaresbrook, 46, of Junction Road, Islington, have also been charged. Both face charges of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without a certificate, and possession of criminal property.

All three have been remanded to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today (November 3).

Two other individuals, a 57-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman, were also arrested during the investigation. They have been bailed pending further enquiries.

None of the three charged has been convicted — these are charges, and the cases will be heard in court. The drugs remain described as alleged class A drugs at this stage.

This is the charging follow-up to the pursuit and five arrests we reported on November 3, when the three now charged were among those arrested on suspicion.
