Private hire giant Addison Lee has confirmed one of its vehicles was involved in the Highgate crash in which a 16-year-old girl died on Thursday morning.
In a statement, the company – one of the capital’s largest private hire firms – said the collision took place in Highgate at approximately 8.30am and had “tragically resulted in the death of a 16-year-old girl”.
Emergency crews were called to North Road in Highgate on Thursday 24 September after the morning crash, and the London Ambulance Service confirmed a teenager died at the scene. The road was closed while police carried out investigation work, and a black people carrier was later seen being towed away.
North Road remained shut for several hours on Thursday morning while collision investigators worked at the scene, causing disruption for drivers and bus passengers in the area.
A driver has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving. The arrest is on suspicion only – the driver has not been charged, and the police investigation is continuing. It is the latest serious collision to shut a London road this week, after an overnight crash saw North Pole Road sealed off for investigation.
