A large police search is under way in a wooded area in south-east London, with officers and forensic teams at the scene, prompting concern among local residents.
The search is taking place in Falconwood field, off Rochester Way in Greenwich, where a substantial cordon has been in place for several days. The cordon has now expanded to close the entire field.
Residents have reported seeing a forensic tent, police dogs and 24-hour patrols securing the scene.
One witness said: “There is a large crime scene in Falconwood field, Greenwich. It has been in place for several days and has expanded today to close the entire field. Police search teams and dogs have been searching. The area is controlled by multiple police units 24/7 but the Police won’t tell the local residents why.”
Another person travelling through the area described seeing a van and a significant police presence, including forensic teams.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that a search is taking place in the area but have not provided further details about the incident.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “A scene has been in place for a search related to a separate incident.”
Despite repeated requests for clarification, the Metropolitan Police have not disclosed the nature of the incident or what officers are searching for.
