Enfield pub owners speak out after fatal shooting, pledging support for murder probe

Published at 4:40pm

The pub chain at the centre of last night’s fatal Enfield shooting has broken its silence, pledging to fully support the Metropolitan Police murder investigation.

A spokesperson for The Sun & Woolpack said: “We are fully supporting the Metropolitan Police with their ongoing investigations following the terrible incident that happened on Monday night.”

“We are supporting our franchisee and their team and our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragic event.”

A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot at the pub on Hertford Road at around 9.30pm on Monday. Paramedics treated him for gunshot wounds but could not save him.

The pub remains closed until further notice.

Greene King has confirmed that the Sun and Woolpack is part of its Pub Partners business rather than its managed pubs division — meaning the venue is independently operated by a franchisee.

Detectives have released CCTV images of a person they want to identify and speak to as the investigation gathers pace.

Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time as they begin to come to terms with this senseless act.”

“We are releasing CCTV images of a person we would like to identify and speak to in connection with the investigation as our enquiries progress swiftly.”

Chief Superintendent Anna Mccartney said: “We recognise the concern local people will have and can reassure them that our officers are working urgently to identify and trace those responsible.”

Local MP Feryal Clark has condemned the shooting as “devastating”, saying gun violence has no place in the community, while floral tributes have been left near the scene.

No arrests have been made so far. Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting CAD 7050/19OCT26, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
