This is a developing story. Live updates are being added to the live blog below as the incident unfolds.
Barnsbury Street in Islington is blocked this morning after a fire broke out on the residential street, with eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackling the blaze.
The London Fire Brigade was called at 5.37am on Monday 26 October, and crews from Islington, Euston, Holloway and surrounding stations remain at the scene.
The road is closed between Thornhill Road and Liverpool Road while firefighters deal with the incident. Drivers and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area while the emergency response continues.
It is not yet known what building is involved, whether anyone has been hurt, what caused the fire, or when the road will reopen. Those details will be added to the live blog above as soon as they are confirmed.
The scale of the response underlines how seriously the brigade is treating the blaze, with crews drawn from several stations across north London. A similar large response was seen at the Kilburn High Road building fire, which closed part of the A5 before the road reopened later the same day. Emergency crews were also called out in force when scaffolding collapsed on Streatham High Road, trapping two people who were freed by passers-by before firefighters arrived.
We will update this story as the situation develops. Avoid Barnsbury Street and the surrounding roads until the closure is lifted.
