Two men have been arrested after a police pursuit in Hanwell ended with a car being driven into police vehicles.
The Metropolitan Police said a car failed to stop for officers on Uxbridge Road, Hanwell, at around 4.44pm on Friday, 6 November. Officers gave chase, and the pursuit ended on Boston Road.
A police spokesperson said: “The driver, a 39-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences including dangerous driving, failing to stop when requested, aggravated vehicle taking and assault on a police constable after the vehicle was driven into contact with police vehicles during the incident.”
A 36-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was also arrested. Police have not said what offences he was arrested on suspicion of.
Uxbridge Road is one of the main routes through Hanwell, in the London Borough of Ealing, running west from Shepherd’s Bush towards Southall. Boston Road, where the pursuit ended, is a residential street in the area.
No further details have been released about the incident, including whether anyone was injured or whether charges have been brought against either man. The vehicle was driven into contact with police vehicles during the pursuit, but the force has not said how badly the vehicles were damaged or whether any officers needed medical attention.
Aggravated vehicle taking is an offence under the Theft Act, covering the taking of a vehicle without consent in circumstances involving dangerous driving, an accident, or damage to the vehicle or other property. The driver also faces allegations of dangerous driving, failing to stop when requested, and assault on a police constable — all of which remain allegations at this stage, as no charges have been announced.
It is the latest in a series of police operations across London this week. In Islington, police have appealed for information about a man wanted in connection with an assault, while in Morden officers arrested an intruder at a block of flats after reports of a man with a gun.
