Man arrested after suspected cannabis haul found in Wanstead Park vehicle search

Published at 8:11pm

A man has been arrested after police discovered a significant quantity of suspected herbal cannabis during a vehicle search in Wanstead Park.

The arrest took place in Wanstead Park on the evening of Friday, 30 October, during patrols carried out by the Wanstead Park Safer Neighbourhood Team as part of the Metropolitan Police’s Autumn Nights patrols.

Officers stopped a vehicle and carried out a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, leading to the discovery of the suspected cannabis.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “This result highlights the continued commitment of local officers to tackling drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour, helping to keep our neighbourhoods safe.”

“We are committed to tackling drug dealing wherever we find it. It forms a key part of our recently published ASB Action Plan.”

The force said it has put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams, increasing visible patrols in hotspot areas to deter and catch offenders.

Police are encouraging members of the public to report any concerns about drug dealing, drug use or anti-social behaviour in their area, saying community intelligence plays a crucial role in supporting police action.

Anyone with information can report it online at met.police.uk or by calling 101. Information can also be given anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The Met is also seeking public feedback on its new inclusion strategy, aimed at ensuring it is a police service that is trusted, representative and more effective at keeping London safe.
