Two men have been jailed after being caught attempting to break into homes and dealing drugs in separate incidents across London.
A 40-year-old was arrested on September 7 within the Hughes Mansions estate in Herne Hill, after officers spotted him trying door handles on numerous properties. After being detained while attempting to flee, officers found him in possession of a number of items, including an angle grinder. The man, described as a “prolific offender”, was subsequently charged and sentenced to 26 weeks in prison for a range of offences.
Whitechapel drug dealing
In a separate incident, a 27-year-old man was sentenced to 30 months in prison for drug dealing. Following an investigation in Whitechapel, police were able to prove that the man was involved in the supply of Class A drugs. He pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
A police spokesperson said: “Anti-social behaviour (ASB) incidents traditionally increase over the school holidays, as Halloween and Bonfire periods coincide with darker nights. Many people within local communities, including the elderly, young and other vulnerable persons, can be anxious at this time of year. Please be assured that we are stepping up our proactive policing of these issues, taking positive action in issuing warnings, enforcing any dispersal zones, and being visible within the local community.”
