Elizabeth line passengers are facing severe delays tonight after a passenger became unwell on a train.
Services are significantly disrupted between Paddington and Abbey Wood, and between Paddington and Shenfield.
The disruption follows the earlier incident involving the unwell passenger, which caused knock-on delays across the busy line during the evening.
Passengers travelling on the affected sections are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys. It is not yet clear when services will return to normal.
The Elizabeth line carries hundreds of thousands of passengers a day between Reading, Heathrow, central London, Abbey Wood and Shenfield, so even a single incident can quickly cascade into widespread delays.
Commuters heading home this evening should check live departure boards before travelling and consider alternative routes where available.
The evening’s rail disruption comes on top of road misery for drivers — Storm Austen is set to bring 70mph gusts on Friday, while London–Windsor trains face half-term engineering works next week.
