Visit My Mosque 2026 takes place this weekend, on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, with more than 250 mosques across the UK opening their doors to the public for the 11th annual open-doors weekend organised by the Muslim Council of Britain.
In London, East London Mosque in Whitechapel is among the participating mosques. Entry is free, everyone is welcome and no registration is required, according to the official Visit My Mosque website.
What to expect during Visit My Mosque 2026
Visitors can take guided tours, view exhibitions on Islamic history and culture, enjoy refreshments and ask questions about Islam and Muslim communities. Many participating mosques also serve as community hubs, running youth groups, educational classes, wellbeing sessions, charity projects and support services for vulnerable residents.
Organisers say the initiative is a response to a challenging climate, with dozens of attacks on mosques reported across the UK over the past year. The Muslim Council of Britain says the weekend gives people a valuable opportunity to meet one another and build stronger relationships within their communities. In East London, a man was charged over offensive graffiti targeting Muslim venues.
