Drivers are facing delays on Western Avenue in north London this afternoon after a crash involving a lorry and a car near West End Road.
The collision was reported earlier today on the busy route, with traffic building in the surrounding area as a result. Motorists travelling through the area are being warned to expect disruption and to allow extra time for their journeys.
According to the latest traffic information, the incident happened on the A4180 West End Lane southbound at its junction with the A40 Western Avenue by the Polish War Memorial roundabout. Both the car and the lorry involved have since been moved onto the pavement on the roundabout itself, but queues remain.
Congestion has been reported stretching back to Bridgwater Road near RAF Northolt, with drivers on the southbound carriageway approaching the roundabout facing the worst of the delays. The AA is among the traffic monitoring services reporting on the incident.
Western Avenue is one of the capital’s main arterial routes, carrying heavy traffic between central London and the western boroughs throughout the day. Incidents on the road can quickly cause tailbacks across a wide area, particularly at busy times, and drivers planning to use the route are advised to check conditions before setting off and to consider alternatives where possible.
The A40 has faced disruption in recent days, including a 55-hour eastbound closure of the Westway, while a separate crash in Northolt recently brought traffic to a standstill.
It is not yet known how long the disruption will last, and details of the clear-up operation are still emerging. We will continue to follow this developing story and bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
