Six Wetherspoons new pubs are on the way — and two of them are in London, with venues set for the Trocadero on Shaftesbury Avenue and the Strand.
Piccadilly Hall will open at The Trocadero, 30 Shaftesbury Avenue (W1D 7EP) on November 3, while The Benjamin Franklin is due to welcome drinkers at 11 Strand (WC2N 5HR) on March 2 next year.
The six new venues will open between September and March, stretching from Dorset to Edinburgh — and even to Barcelona Airport.
First up is The Cranborne Hundred on Ringwood Road in Ferndown, Dorset, which opens its doors on September 29. It will be followed by the Amersham venue, The Wellers Entire on Hill Avenue, on December 8.
North of the border, The William Chambers on Chambers Street in Edinburgh is scheduled to open on January 26, 2027, while the chain is also opening a pub inside Barcelona Airport in February 2027.
The pub giant already runs more than 800 venues across the UK and Ireland, and has been expanding steadily this year with new openings in Cornwall, Bath and Blackpool.
Last year it opened its first venue outside the UK and Ireland, at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport in Spain — and the Barcelona Airport pub will be its second Spanish site.
Six venues have already opened their doors this month: The Fletton Brick in Kempston, The Belle Vue at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2, The Heath Hotel in Dibden Purlieu near Southampton, The Red Gown at St Andrews University, The Marshfield Bank Farm House in Crewe — and The Sir Frank Whittle at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 2, giving travellers another option before they fly.
The chain is famous for its affordable pints and all-day food menus, and its new openings are often major local events, creating dozens of jobs in each town.
The Trocadero venue places Wetherspoons right in the heart of the West End, a stone’s throw from Piccadilly Circus, while the Strand pub sits on one of the capital’s most historic thoroughfares, close to Trafalgar Square and the theatres of the West End.
The expansion comes as the capital’s hospitality sector keeps a close eye on the debate over tourist tax powers for mayors, which could reshape how visitors — and the businesses that serve them — are charged in the years ahead.
