An air ambulance was scrambled to a residential street in Woolwich on Saturday evening after police officers came across an injured man.
Herbert Road in Plumstead was cordoned off while emergency services responded to the incident, which unfolded at around quarter to six.
Officers found the man, who is in his 20s, with injuries on Herbert Road at around 17:45 on Saturday, 26 September. They provided first aid at the scene before he was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.
His injuries have been described as non-life-changing, and he remains in hospital receiving treatment.
The attendance of the air ambulance — usually dispatched only to the most serious incidents — underlines how seriously the initial response was treated, even though the man’s injuries were later assessed as not life-threatening.
London’s air ambulance, a charity-funded helicopter service, works alongside the London Ambulance Service to bring advanced trauma care to the scene of serious incidents across the capital.

Police cordons in residential streets often remain in place for several hours while officers gather evidence and speak to potential witnesses, and residents were thanked for their patience while the road was closed.
Anyone who was in the Herbert Road area on Saturday evening and saw or heard anything unusual is urged to contact police, even if they believe the detail to be minor — small pieces of information can prove significant to an investigation.
The incident comes amid a busy weekend for emergency services across the capital. It follows the death of a 24-year-old cyclist in a hit-and-run in North Pole Road, North Kensington, in a case now being treated as murder.
Police are also appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash in Enfield in which a 48-year-old man died and another man was left in a critical condition.
