Restore Britain campaigners were confronted by counter-demonstrators while leafleting in Camden on Saturday morning, in a tense encounter that drew a police response ahead of the Holborn and St Pancras by-election.
Around 20 members of the party, including its by-election candidate Tyler Johnson, had gathered in the area to distribute campaign literature when they were met by a larger group of roughly 40 supporters of the anti-racism campaign group Stand Up To Racism.
Police officers attended the scene. Officers escorted the Restore Britain activist Lewis Holmes to a police vehicle, which then left the area.
Mr Johnson later posted on social media acknowledging that his group had been outnumbered during the encounter.
It was reported at the scene that a man, Gregory Moffitt, was arrested on suspicion of assault. The circumstances of the reported arrest have not been independently confirmed.
Saturday’s confrontation came during a weekend that also saw major disruption on the London Overground network. Camden sits within the Holborn and St Pancras constituency, where voters will elect a new MP on 8 October. The Metropolitan Police were contacted for comment.
