A new NHS trust covering mental health services across north London formally came into being this morning, after the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care approved its creation.
The North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) was established on 24 September 2026, bringing together the former Barnet, Enfield and Haringey and Camden and Islington Mental Health Trusts into a single organisation.

The new trust says its vision is “Better Mental Health, Better Lives and Better Communities” for local people. It says it will continue working with service users, carers, staff, governors and local partners, and aims to deliver improved services across North London.
Today’s announcement covers the formal establishment of the trust and its stated ambitions. It does not set out specific service changes: the emphasis is on the coming-into-being of the new organisation rather than on operational detail.

The launch comes at a demanding time for NHS services in the capital. London nurses recently reported patients dying in ‘suffocating’ hospital wards in an NHS heatwave survey, underlining the pressures facing frontline staff.
Patient safety has also been high on the agenda across the capital’s health services, with Martha’s Rule set to be expanded to every A&E in England following the death of a south London teenager.
