New Tube strike dates announced as drivers plan walkouts into the new year

Published at 11:19am

London Underground drivers will stage a series of 24-hour strikes from later this month into the new year, the RMT union has announced, in a long-running dispute over working arrangements.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) said the walkouts are set to start on November 26 and continue into the new year.

The union said new working arrangements are being imposed, including a four-day week. The RMT says that under the plans, drivers face increased time spent driving trains, longer duties, earlier starts and later finishes.

The 24-hour strikes will begin at noon on the following dates:

  • Thursday, November 26
  • Thursday, December 17
  • Saturday, December 19
  • Monday, January 4
  • Wednesday, January 6
  • Wednesday, February 17
  • Tuesday, February 23
  • Thursday, February 25

Each walkout runs for 24 hours from noon, so disruption will span from midday on the strike day through to midday the following day.

The dates cover the Christmas period and the start of the new year, including two walkouts in the week before Christmas and two in the first week of January. Commuters planning travel on those dates should check before they travel, as services are expected to be severely disrupted or suspended on affected lines.

The dispute centres on the new working arrangements for drivers. The union argues the changes mean more time behind the controls, longer shifts, and starts and finishes pushed further into the early morning and late evening. No agreement has been reached, and the union has set out the full programme of dates running into February.

Transport for London has been approached for comment on the announcement. We will update this story as more details are confirmed, including which lines will be affected on each strike day.
