Southeastern urges passengers to skip Blackheath station for Bonfire Night

Published at 2:20pm

Southeastern has urged passengers to avoid Blackheath station on Bonfire Night, warning it is expected to be busier than usual.

The station is expected to see extra pressure on Thursday 5 November because of the annual Bonfire Night celebrations on Blackheath Common, as well as local football matches, according to Southeastern.

Passengers have been advised to use Lewisham, Greenwich or Maze Hill stations for their journeys home instead.

The annual Bonfire Night celebrations on Blackheath Common are expected to attract large crowds, with visitors heading to the area to watch the fireworks display and enjoy the evening’s festivities. The event traditionally draws families and visitors from across south-east London, putting additional pressure on local transport services.

Passengers are therefore being encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative stations where possible.

Fireworks season is under way across the capital: Alexandra Palace’s fireworks have been named the best in the UK, while lift foundations are now done at Wandsworth Town station as its step-free project moves forward.
