Drivers face hour-long delays on the M25 north of London tonight after a broken-down car closed three lanes of the clockwise carriageway.
Lanes two, three and four are shut between Junction 23 (Hatfield) and Junction 24 (Potters Bar), with traffic congested all the way back to Junction 22 for St Albans and London Colney.
Long delays are building between South Mimms and Potters Bar as traffic squeezes into the single open lane.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time and to check live traffic updates before travelling. National Highways is attending the scene.
The incident adds to a difficult evening for road users around the capital — Storm Austen is set to bring 70mph gusts on Friday, while rail passengers face disruption between London and Windsor next week.
