Detectives have issued a CCTV image of a person they want to speak to in connection with the fatal shooting outside The Sun and Woolpack pub in Enfield.
On Monday, 19 October at around 21:30, police were called to reports of a shooting at the pub on Hertford Road, Enfield. Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
A 35-year-old man was treated by paramedics for gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The CCTV image shows a person in a bright orange curly wig, dark winter hat and black coat. Detectives say it is unclear at this early stage whether the person is a man or a woman — or whether they are wearing a disguise — and are urging anyone who recognises them to come forward.
No arrests have been made and enquiries remain ongoing. A crime scene remains in place while officers continue to investigate.
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time as they begin to come to terms with this senseless act.
“We are releasing CCTV images of a person we would like to identify and speak to in connection with the investigation as our enquiries progress swiftly.
“We are also particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage that could assist our enquiries. Even information that may seem insignificant could prove crucial. No piece of information is too small, and I would urge anyone who believes they can help to contact police.”
Chief Superintendent Anna Mccartney, who leads policing in the area, said: “We recognise the concern local people will have and can reassure them that our officers are working urgently to identify and trace those responsible. Serious violence has no place in our community, and the Met remains fully committed to tackling gun crime. We are determined to establish exactly what happened and provide much needed answers for those affected by this tragic incident.”
The shooting is the latest development in a case that has shocked north London. Earlier we reported the launch of the murder inquiry, and Enfield North MP Feryal Clark condemned the “devastating” killing.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting CAD 7050/19OCT26, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
