Full diversion details have emerged after a police incident shut the A1010 Hertford Road in both directions near Turkey Street this morning.
The road, a key route through Enfield towards the M25, was closed between Turkey Street and Ordnance Road from around 1.30am — with the closure lasting more than six hours.
Buses on diversion
London buses on routes 121, 279 and 327 were diverted away from the closed section, with Transport for London advising passengers to expect delays and to check before travelling.
The diversions added to an already difficult morning on the capital’s roads, with the M25 also suffering major disruption from two separate crashes.
Queueing traffic
The AA reported queueing traffic on the A1010 in both directions as drivers sought alternative routes through the area. Hertford Road is a busy commuter artery, and the early-hours closure caught some drivers by surprise.
Police have not yet confirmed the nature of the incident that led to the closure. The road has since reopened, but drivers were advised to allow extra time while traffic returned to normal.
What happened
Emergency services were called to the scene in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The exact circumstances remain unclear, but the length of the closure — more than six hours — suggests a serious incident requiring extensive investigation.
Enfield residents waking up to the news found diversions in place and were urged to use alternative routes where possible.
This is a developing story. London Streets will update it as more details become available.
