Police give fresh update on man shot in Wembley a week on

Published at 9:13am

Police have given a Wembley shooting update on the condition of a 24-year-old man who was shot in Wembley a week ago, confirming that he has been left with injuries described as potentially life-changing.

The Metropolitan Police said the shooting in Douglas Avenue was reported at around 3.45am on Saturday, October 3. Officers attended the residential street alongside paramedics, where the man was found critically injured. He was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, prompting a major investigation in the Wembley area.

A week on from the attack, detectives have now confirmed the updated medical position while stressing that their enquiries are continuing. There have been no confirmed arrests in connection with the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing as officers work to establish exactly what happened in the early hours of that Saturday morning.

The latest update follows the emergence of doorbell camera footage recorded on the same street. The recording captured the sound of rapid gunfire during the night, as well as people running in different directions in the moments afterwards. That footage has formed part of the background to the appeal, helping to focus attention on a short but crucial window of time in Douglas Avenue.

Timeline of the incident and investigation so far

At around 3.45am on Saturday, October 3, police received a report of a shooting in Douglas Avenue, Wembley. The street is a residential road in the London Borough of Brent, in north-west London, made up largely of homes where most residents would have been asleep at that hour.

Officers attended alongside paramedics and found a 24-year-old man critically injured in the street. He was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. Our first report on the early-hours shooting in Douglas Avenue set out the initial police response and the seriousness of the man’s condition as it was understood at the time.

Doorbell footage from the same street then came to light, capturing the sound of the gunfire and the movement of people immediately afterwards. Our follow-up report as the doorbell recording emerged explained how that audio has been examined alongside the wider investigation, with detectives continuing to piece together the sequence of events.

In the days that followed, police maintained that enquiries were ongoing and that no arrests had been confirmed. The position was restated in the update issued a week after the shooting, when the force confirmed that the man’s injuries are now described as potentially life-changing. The change in wording marks the clearest indication so far of the seriousness of the harm caused, while the absence of any confirmed arrest underlines that detectives are still seeking the information they need.

What police are asking the public to do

Detectives are urging anyone with information about the shooting, or who was in the area at the time, to come forward. Even details that may seem minor could help officers confirm timings, movements and the sequence captured in part on the doorbell recording.

Anyone who can help is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference 1115/3OCT. Quoting the reference ensures that information is directed to the team dealing with this specific investigation. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, for anyone who would prefer not to speak directly to police or give their name.

The appeal remains live a week on, reflecting the fact that investigators have not yet confirmed any arrests. Police have not included any further detail about the circumstances in the latest update, and the focus of the statement is firmly on the man’s condition and the continuing call for witnesses and information.

Wembley has felt the impact of shootings before, and London Streets has previously reported on a mother’s grief one year after her son was shot dead near Wembley Stadium. Police have not suggested that the earlier case is connected to the Douglas Avenue investigation, and the current appeal relates solely to the events of October 3.

For now, the 24-year-old remains in hospital with injuries described as potentially life-changing, seven days after he was found critically injured in Douglas Avenue. Detectives say the investigation is ongoing, and they continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area, heard anything, or holds information that could assist, to contact police on 101 quoting 1115/3OCT, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
