South Western Railway has warned that services to and from London Waterloo could be delayed by up to 30 minutes, altered or cancelled altogether. Long-distance routes towards Basingstoke, Portsmouth, Salisbury, Exeter, Bournemouth and Weymouth were all caught up in the disruption, along with trains between Waterloo and Guildford via Woking.

Police were called to an incident near the railway in the Woking area on Wednesday afternoon, with response teams sent to the scene. Every line between Woking and Basingstoke was blocked while officers dealt with what happened.

The lines have since reopened and trains are gradually getting back to normal, although some services may still run late or be revised while operators work to restore the full timetable. Passengers using Woking, Basingstoke and the surrounding routes are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys this evening.

We will keep this page updated as the situation develops.
