Officers bailed to appear at Isleworth Crown Court in October
Two Met officers — one serving and one former — have appeared in court charged with assault causing actual bodily harm over an alleged incident in Southall more than three years ago.
According to the Metropolitan Police, PC Jason Mugg, 30, and former PC Darren Boast, 40, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 16 September. Both were bailed to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday, 14 October.
PC Mugg is attached to the Met’s West Area Command Unit. Former PC Boast was attached to the same unit at the time of the incident, police said.
The alleged incident
The charges relate to an incident on 14 August 2023 in Carlyle Avenue, Southall, west London. It is alleged that during a vehicle stop and subsequent arrest, unnecessary and disproportionate force was used against a member of the public, a 34-year-old man, who sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment.
Both officers were charged with assault causing actual bodily harm on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, following an investigation into the incident by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, which handles the force’s internal investigations.
Met officers charged three years after the alleged Southall incident
The alleged incident took place in August 2023, and the two officers were charged on 5 August 2026 — almost exactly three years later — after the Directorate of Professional Standards, which investigates conduct matters within the force, completed its enquiries.
Both men were charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, a charge that applies where an assault is alleged to have caused injury requiring medical treatment.
Allegation, not finding
The charges are allegations. No finding of guilt has been made against either officer, and the case will now proceed through the criminal courts. Because the matter is the subject of active criminal proceedings, further details are limited at this stage.
What’s next
